Journey to Everest Base Camp

The Everest Base Camp trek is the classic trail through the majestic Everest region. The journey combines spectacular Himalayan scenery with an opportunity to experience the local Sherpa community and Buddhist culture.

The trail begins with a journey from Kathmandu to Ramechhap followed by a short flight to Lukla, the main access point to the Khumbu region.

Along the route, trekkers experience forests, suspension bridges, prayer wheels, traditional villages, teahouses, monasteries and dramatic Himalayan peaks before reaching Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.

14-Day Detailed Itinerary

Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, welcome by the representative and transfer to the hotel. Welcome dinner and trip briefing will follow.
Scenic flight to Lukla followed by meeting the Sherpa team and trekking towards Phakding. Overnight in Phakding.
Trek through the western banks of Dudh Koshi, crossing suspension bridges and passing through Monjo and Jorsalle before reaching Namche Bazaar.
Rest and acclimatization day. Explore Namche Bazaar, visit the Sherpa Museum and enjoy panoramic mountain views from the Everest View Point area.
Trek along a high-level path above the Dudh Koshi with views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamserku and Kwangde before reaching Thyangboche Monastery.
Continue through rhododendron forests and meadows towards Deboche and the Imja Khola before reaching Dingboche.
Rest and acclimatization. Trekkers may choose to explore Chhukung or enjoy a full rest day at Dingboche.
Travel through Dughla and continue along the Khumbu Glacier moraine towards Lobuche, with views of memorials and surrounding peaks.
Trek to Gorakshep before continuing towards Everest Base Camp through rocky trails, moraines and streams. Explore the base camp and surrounding glacier before returning to Gorakshep.
Early hike to Kala Patthar for sunrise views of Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, Ama Dablam and the Khumbu Himalayan range. Descend towards Pheriche.
Descend through Pangboche, Tengboche and Kyanjuma before returning to Namche Bazaar.
Trek downhill through the surrounding landscape, passing the Hillary suspension bridge before reaching Lukla.
Take the flight back to Kathmandu if weather conditions allow. Transfer to accommodation and enjoy time to relax.
Free time before departure and transfer to the international airport. End of services.

Essential Travel Information

Flying to Lukla

During peak trekking seasons, Lukla flights operate from Ramechhap (Manthali Airport), approximately 4–5 hours east of Kathmandu.

Baggage Allowance

Lukla flights allow 15kg of checked luggage and 5kg of carry-on luggage.

Tickets & Permits

Travellers should book Lukla flights in advance and carry a valid passport together with flight ticket copies.

Difficulty & Best Time to Trek

The Everest Base Camp trek is non-technical but requires good physical fitness. A major challenge is walking for approximately 6–7 hours across rugged, high-altitude terrain.

The trek reaches elevations above 5,000m and acclimatization is an important part of the journey.

Safety & First-Time Trekker Tips

Altitude awareness: Altitude sickness is a significant concern during the Everest Base Camp trek. Proper acclimatization, hydration and a controlled pace are important.

Drink approximately 3–4 litres of water per day and stay properly hydrated.

Eat nutritious food and avoid excessive junk food.

Walk at a slow and steady pace rather than rushing.

Allow your body sufficient time to acclimatize to higher elevations.

Seek medical assistance promptly if serious altitude-related symptoms occur.
